What is a Bright Spring?

Bright Spring is one of the twelve seasons in the color analysis system, defined by three coordinates: warm-neutral in temperature, light to medium in depth, and very high in saturation.

Saturation is the dominant trait. Bright Spring sits between True Spring and Bright Winter, borrowing warmth from one neighbour and clarity from the other. Every colour in the palette is clean — no grey has been added to anything.

This is the season most damaged by generic "wear neutrals" advice. Put a Bright Spring in a beige-and-grey capsule wardrobe and the whole face goes flat. The colouring needs vivid colour the way Deep Winter needs depth.

Signs you might be a Bright Spring

  • Vivid colors suit you. Coral, turquoise, and warm true red look natural on you rather than costume-like.
  • Muted colors flatten you. Sage, dusty rose, taupe, and mushroom leave your face looking tired.
  • Noticeable contrast, but warm. There is a clear step between your hair, eyes, and skin, yet nothing about the colouring reads cool.
  • Your eyes are clear and bright. Clear blue, bright green, warm turquoise, or golden brown, often with a distinct pattern visible in the iris.
  • You tan golden. Skin typically warm or neutral-warm, tanning to a golden rather than a red or ashy brown.
  • Gold jewelry brightens you — and bright, shiny gold rather than antiqued gold.

Warm Ivory

Your light neutral in place of stark white

Build around warm ivory, warm navy, and camel as neutrals — but keep the neutrals in a supporting role. The accents are what make this season work, so put coral, turquoise, and golden yellow near the face rather than saving them for accessories.

Colors to avoid

  • Muted, dusty shades. Sage, dusty rose, mushroom, and greyed anything. These belong to Soft Autumn and Soft Summer, and they are the fastest way to flatten a Bright Spring.
  • Black. Too cool and too heavy. Warm navy or bronze anchors better.
  • Stark cool white. Use warm ivory instead.
  • Deep, murky darks. Burgundy, deep plum, and forest green weigh the colouring down.

Makeup for Bright Spring

Foundation. Warm or neutral-warm base, light to medium depth. Codes ending in W, G, or Y usually work.

Blush. Clear coral, warm peach, and bright warm pink. Bright Spring can carry more vivid blush than the muted seasons without looking overdone.

Lipstick. Coral, warm true red, clear watermelon, and bright peach-nude. Skip brown-nudes and muted mauves, which grey out the mouth. See our lipstick guide for shade selection.

Eyes. Warm gold, clear teal, bright copper, and warm brown. Brown or navy liner is softer than black and stays in season.

Hair color and jewelry

Hair. Golden blonde, warm honey, bright copper, and warm light brown. Ash tones are the main thing to avoid — they mute the colouring, which removes the one quality the season depends on. Highlights should stay golden rather than beige.

Jewelry. Bright, high-polish yellow gold. Clear and vivid stones — turquoise, citrine, peridot, coral, clear crystal — suit far better than antiqued metal or matte organic stones.

Bright Spring vs. its neighbours

Compared toShared traitWhat separates you
True SpringWarm, light-mediumTrue Spring is slightly softer; you need maximum clarity
Light SpringWarm, clearLight Spring is noticeably lighter and gentler; you carry more contrast
Bright WinterBright, high contrastBright Winter is cool — fuchsia and icy blue flatter it, not you

The Bright Winter confusion is the one to resolve. Hold coral and fuchsia against your bare face in daylight: if coral lights you up and fuchsia looks slightly wrong, you are Bright Spring.

Building a Bright Spring wardrobe

Start with warm ivory and warm navy as your base, add camel as a third neutral, then commit to three vivid accents worn near the face (coral, turquoise, golden yellow). Finish with bright yellow gold. The mistake to avoid is a neutral-heavy wardrobe with colour relegated to accessories — this colouring needs the vivid shades where they can reflect onto the face.
